The addition of a mutual fund SIP account in August was a record

Investors continued to increase exposure through the Systematic Investment Planning (SIP) route in August amid a steady pace in the stock market. New SIP account registrations hit a record 24.9 lakh in the month, according to figures from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).

The number of registrations in August was about 2.5 times the long-term average. This is the third consecutive month when new SIP registrations were over 20 lakh, bringing the total number of SIP accounts to 4.3 crore.

The total net inflow of SIP accounts in the last 12 months is around one crore, which is about 25% of the total SIP accounts. The new account opening-closing rate was 2.6 in August and has peaked twice in the last six months. Due to the growing contribution of new accounts on the FinTech platform, the average ticket size of SIP investors dropped from 35,355 to 35,355 in August 2021 where the average SIP investment is around ₹ 500.

Total SIP assets (AUM) under management reached a record ₹ 5.3 lakh crore in August. It contributed 14.4% to the industry AUM जास्त more than the long-term average contribution of 10.5%. Mutual funds have reported cumulative inflows of ₹ 1 lakh crore in the last 12 months, bringing the retail AUM to Rs 17.2 lakh crore or 47% of the total industry AUM. The average portfolio value of SIP investors in August stood at 21 1,21,839, compared to IP 1,14,653 at the beginning of the year.
